I'm Ana, character and SFX makeup artist
I’ve spent more than twelve years doing makeup and building characters for film, TV, advertising, theatre or events. Based in Barcelona and the Maresme, where I live. I often work in Girona and travel anywhere in Spain.
From Pamplona to Barcelona
I started in Pamplona, my home town. I qualified in aesthetics and wellbeing and worked as a beautician in salons. That’s where I learned to treat skin, and it’s still the base of everything I do: a prosthetic only sits well on skin that’s been properly prepped.
Then I moved to Barcelona to study professional makeup and character work. That was the turning point. I started working in makeup and haven’t stopped.
What I do
Character makeup, special effects, Body Paint, on-set makeup and moulage for emergency drills. I’ve worked for the film industry, on photo shoots, at trade fairs, private parties and events of all kinds.
I make my own prosthetics and props. When a character needs horns, scales, a specific wound or a bald cap, I design it and make it myself. I don’t rely on catalogue pieces.
How I work
I’m fussy to the point of being annoying. I check the edge of every prosthetic, the continuity of every take and the state of the skin when the makeup comes off. I work with professional products, water-based where the project allows.
On set or at an event, my job is that nobody has to think about the makeup. Not the director, not the actor, not the organiser.
Where
I work wherever the project is: set, location, venue or your home. Barcelona, the Maresme and Girona are my usual ground. I travel across Catalonia and anywhere in Spain; travel is included in the quote. Distance isn’t a problem.
